Chapter 16 Welcome Wagon

Sue wanted to ride in back. I put her bag in the carrier on the roof and left the airport without any more plan than to head west.

Sue was every bit as beautiful as her photo. She wore a lightweight white sweatshirt and a knee-length gray skirt made of a similar material. It looked like it might be a tennis outfit. Like a skirt she would wear at the gym with shorts underneath. She wasn’t wearing shorts. The sweatshirt was loose-fitting. She had tennis shoes and ankle socks.

I found her incredibly attractive in person. So much that I’d felt like I had to kiss her immediately. Like there was no reason to wait. Like she and I were connected like two people who had fallen in love from a distance as pen pals and had finally met in person. It made perfect sense to me. I believed in love at first sight and irresistible attraction.

The love that I would develop for Sue wasn’t stronger than what I felt for Lori, but the instant attraction was. With Lori, I’d wanted to hold and comfort her. With Sue, I wanted to cleave to her and have our hands all over each other. It was a good sign if this was really going to be a triad relationship.

We were back on the freeway when I thought of something Sue had said.

“Sue, you told me I was weird.”

Lori jumped in. “You are! I keep telling you.”

I smiled. “And I always have been. But Sue, what was weird about me right then?”

Sue said, “You asked me if I felt like kissing you. You didn’t ask if I wanted you to kiss me, or if you could kiss me, or for me to kiss you. You asked if I felt like kissing.”

Lori said, “He does that all the time. His phrasing is perfect. But it’s weird. He offers opportunities. If we feel like it. It’s very weird. And I don’t think he even thinks about it. It’s just how he sees the world. He either asks me if I feel like it, or he just tells me what’s going to happen. I know I have a choice, but he’s always right. It’s like he tells me what has already happened in the future. Like when I was going to sleep in his bed the first night. He just told me. And I knew he was right.”

Lori went on to explain what that first night was like. How she slept in my arms and sex wasn’t an issue. That we hadn’t expected it to be. That we weren’t even thinking of ourselves as a couple that first night. I was holding her and making love happen for us.

As we drove, Lori talked about our agreed definition of sexiness. That making love was a creative process. She went as far as talking about what she thought about sex and fucking and nudity. She emphasized honesty and made Sue agree to always tell the truth unless she didn’t want to answer at all.
